Abstract

769,468. Sliding clasp fasteners. FLEX FASTENERS, Ltd. Nov. 25, 1955 [Dec. 15, 1954], No. 36323/54. Class 44. In a slider for a sliding clasp fastener comprising a slider body 21 having two slider shields 22, 23 interconnected by a neck portion 32 for guiding interlocking members of the fastener through the slider and a pull tab 24 for operating the slider, the pull tab having a locking finger 26 arranged for entering a space between adjacent interlocking members and thereby locking the slider in position on the fastener when the pull tab is in a locking position, the pull tab is pivoted to the slider body with a substantial play in the longitudinal direction of the slider body whereby to facilitate locking of the slider in position on the fastener. As shown, the pull tab 24 is hollow at one end, the cavity thus formed being closed at one side by a wall 39 provided with a slot 27 and housing a pivot pin 25 and a spring 41. The ends of the pivot pin protrude from the cavity at one side of the pull tab 24 and at the other side through the slot 27 and are engaged in holes 36. One end of the spring 41 lies within the cavity and the other end engages a recess 43 in the slider body, thus to bias the pull tab to the locking position. In modifications, the pull tab may be provided with a second finger adjacent a wall 34 of the shield 23 to project through a corresponding window 38. Alternatively, a single window may be provided for both fingers of the pull tab. The window or windows may be replaced by an open-ended slot. The cavity in the pull tab may extend through the entire width thereof, the cavity itself functioning as the slot 27. The cavity may be omitted from the pull tab, a cavity being provided instead in the side walls 34, 35 of the slider shields to engage the ends of the pivot pin. A recess 33 for the pull tab may be omitted, the pivot pin being engaged in a lug or pugs projecting from the slider shield. The spring 41 may be a rubber sleeve or may be entirely omitted.
