Abstract
769,052. Induction heating. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 23, 1955 [May 25, 1954], No. 14778/55. Class 39(3) A magnetic workpiece 12 is heated inductively to above the Curie point by a coil 10 supplied by a high frequency generator 25, whilst being simultaneously subjected to a unidirectional magnetic field by a coil 11 supplied from a direct current source 3U. The workpiece, which is in the form of a gear 23 with axially extending sections 24, 24<SP>1</SP>, is saturated with magnetic flux by the coil 11 which surrounds the section 24. The generator 25 can thereby be tuned for a maximum loading which is maintained substantially constant throughout the heating operation without the need for a retuning of the generator tank circuit when the Curie point is reached. Alternatively, the coil 11 is wound on a core between two limbs of which the workpiece is held.
