Abstract
669,842. Induction heating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CURTIS, P. B. Feb. 22, 1950 [Feb. 22, 1949]. No. 4838/49. Class 39(iii). An H.F. induction heater comprising a winding 10 and a work coil 13 (together forming a conventional concentrator) has a variable reactance in series (see Fig. 2, not shown) or parallel with the winding 10 to vary the loading, the variation being effected discontinuously to predetermined values by means of one or more tappings, if desired, while current is flowing in the work loop. In the embodiment described, the reactance is inductive and comprises two parallel conductors 14, which are bridged by a solenoid-controlled member 15, and the member 15 may be operated by any suitable means, e.g. mechanically.
