Abstract
768,793. Tubular heat exchangers. SULZER FRERES, SOC.' ANON. April 20, 1955 [April 20, 1954], No. 11466/55 Classes 64(1) and 64(3). A tubular heat exchanger, particularly for use in gas turbine plant, comprises a bundle of tubes 14 surrounded by a casing 1, the mid-part of at least, some of the tubes being secured against displacement relatively to the central part of the casing, whilst all the tubes at their two ends are secured in tube plates 18, 19 which are elastically connected to the casing. In the form shown turbine exhaust gas flows through the tubes over which combustionair to be heated is directed by baffles 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. Baffle 9 is welded to an annular inner casing wall 15, which supports the baffles 10-13. The tubes pass through all the baffles and are secured at their respective ends in tube plates 18, 19 which are joined to the casing by bellowslike members 20, 21. The baffles and the tube plates are provided centrally with apertures in order that access may be had for welding at least some of the tubes 14 to the central baffle 9 during assembly. Covers 24, 25 are later placed over apertures in the tube plates 18, 19 and the baffles 10. 12 to provide a tortuous path for the air flowing over the tubes.
