815,475. Gas turbine plant. HENSCHEL & SOHN G.m.b.H. Sept. 12, 1955 [Sept. 10, 1954], No. 26011/55. Class 110 (3). [A.lso in Groups XII and XIII] A gas turbine plant comprising a built-in heat exchanger arranged concentrically with the turbine axis and axially between the exhaust side of the turbine and the compressor with the heat exchanger tubes disposed parallel to the turbine axis and traversed in cross-flow relationship by the turbine exhaust gases, has annular air collecting chests disposed on either side of the heat exchanger, the turbine and compressor casings connected respectively to one of these chests and an annular passage extending through one of the chests for the turbine exhaust gases. Air compressed in a compressor 5 is passed through an annular connecting member 13 into an air chest 14. From the chest 14 the air passes through the small tubes 16 parallel to the turbine axis to the outlet chest 7. To give additional rigidity, plates 17 are welded to the tube plates 15. The chests 7 and 14 carry brackets 18 by means of which the heat exchanger is secured to a foundation. A hood-shaped steel jacket 6 fixed to the air chest 7 supports the turbine bearing 3. The inner and outer boundary walls 8, 9 of an annular combustion chamber and the turbine stator casing 10 are also attached to the air chest 7 in which are mounted the burners 12. The heat exchanger and stator casing 10 are split along a plane parallel to the turbine axis. The turbine exhaust gases pass through a diffuser 19 and the heat exchanger into the collecting chamber 20. The spaces between the combustion chamber walls 8, 9 and the steel jacket 6 and the stator casing 10 are filled with air from the chest 7 so that the pressure drop across the walls 8, 9 is negligible. This air is allowed to leak through small holes in the walls 8, 9. The walls 8, 9 and jacket 6 may be constructed in one piece.
