Abstract

768,663. Gear pumps. THOMPSON PRODUCTS, Inc. Aug. 5, 1954, No. 22801/54. Class 110 (2). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXIX] A multiple gear pump, Fig. 3, comprises two sets of pumps 41, 49 and 46, 50 respectively, which are mounted in a common casing 21 and have a common inlet manifold but separate outlet conduits, each of which terminates in a filter housing 29 or 31, see Fig. 6 (not shown). The gears 41, 46 are drivingly associated with a stub shaft 33, a biasing spring 48 being interposed between the shafts 33, 43 and shear sections 72, 73, 74 provided as shown. Stationary bushings 51 and pressure-loaded bushings 68 are provided as necessary together with spring retainer members 69 and springs 70 for initial loading purposes. Each pump communicates with a spring-loaded poppet valve 76, see Fig. 7 (not shown), which controls the entry of fuel to a chamber 82 leading to lubricating passages 54, 56, 66, 67, 71, see also Fig. 9 (not shown). The lubricant is recirculated to the inlet conduit through a check valve 86, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The pump is also provided with a safety relief valve R, Fig. 2 (not shown), for limiting the pressure as well as the quantity of fuel fed to an engine operating control.
