Abstract

768,595. Variable pitch propellers. FEROY. A. March 25, 1955 [March 30, 1954], No. 8884/55. Class 114. In a variable pitch propeller having a blade extending radially from the hub, a flange on and disposed normally to the blade is rotated to change the pitch of the propeller by means comprising a control member 30 movable axially in the hub 10 and operatively connected, as by a pin 26, to a self-aligning or laterally movable cam plate 25 having cam slots 24 in which slide blocks 23 surrounding pins 22 secured to the blade flange. The pins are disposed at opposite ends of the longer axis of the flange which is elliptical in shape. As shown, the slots 24 are straight but in a modification in which the hub consists of a pair of end caps screwed on to a split centre piece they are arcuate. The blade screws into a boss on the face of the flange and the flange bears against the hub 10 to take centrifugal thrust.
