Abstract
768,570. Electrolytic production of silver powder. WESTEST TECHNICAL CORPORATION. June 8, 1954 [June 8, 1953], No. 16790/54. Class 41. Silver powder is produced by continuously scraping off the silver electro-deposited on the surface of the cathode of a cell having a silver anode and an aqueous solution of hydrofluosilicic acid as electrolyte. As shown, a non- metallic tank 10 containing a 2 to 30 per cent solution of hydrofluosilicic acid at 20‹ to 50 C. is provided with a silver plate anode 12 and a stainless steel cathode 20 rotated at <SP>1</SP>/ 3 r.p.m. by a motor-driven shaft 18 above the surface of the electrolyte and engaged by non-metallic doctor blades 21, 22. The doctor blades may alternatively be mounted above the electrolyte and may then be of metal. A cathode current density of 0.2 to 3.0 amps 1 sq. inch may be used. The white silver powder may be sintered to form electrodes for use in a silverzinc battery or electric contacts.
