Abstract
768,186. Electrically-released switches. air-break switches. McGRAW ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 24, 1955, No. 5595/55. Class 38(5) A fuse cut-out has an insulating support 1 for upper and lower terminals 4, 5 and an expulsion fuse tube 35 pivoted on the lower terminal which comprises a, hoodlike member 9 with hook-like bearings 12 and an outwardly flared guide slot 15 for receiving a lateral extension 45 of a lower support member 36 of the fuse tube 35. The extension 45 is pivoted to a link 56 having trunnions 65 supported in the bearings 12 and a contact member 74 resiliently engaged by a fixed contact member 29, relative rotation between the extension 45 and the link 56 being normally prevented by the fuse 69. The upper end of the fuse tube 35 may have a transverse contact rod 95 which co-operates with a contact spring 112. This spring is substantially U-shaped with curved back -ends and provides a strong downward bias on the rod 95 to cause relative rotation between the extension 45 and the link 56 when the fuse is ruptured followed by the downward swinging of the link 56 and fuse tube assembly about the trunnions 65 to the open-circuit position.
