Abstract
768,140. Inductors. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. March 23, 1955 [March 23, 1954], No. 8482/54. Class 38 (2). A saturable inductor comprises a relatively thin permanent magnet 8 magnetized in the direction of its shortest dimension, and two saturable limbs 1, 2 each having one end in magnetic connection with one pole face of the magnet, the magnetic circuit being completed by a yoke 9, 10, 11 which extends from the other ends of the limbs 1, 2 to the other pole face of magnet 10. The cross-sectional areas of the yoke 9, 10, 11 and of the permanent magnet 8 are large compared with that of limbs 1, 2. A.C. coils 3, 4 are wound on laminated limbs 1, 2 the A.C. magnetic circuit being completed by laminated yokes 5, 6 of greater cross-sectional area than the limbs so that these saturate first. A soft iron plate 7 is interposed between magnet 8 and the A.C. core structure. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 a permanent magnet 8, 81 is arranged at each end of the limbs 7 which are clamped between flanges 20, 20<SP>1</SP> on plates 7, 71 and angle members 21, 21<SP>1</SP>.
