Abstract

767,330. Discharge apparatus. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., WHELDON, R. J., WIDDOWSON, A. E., and WILKINSON, K. H. July 5, 1955 [July 23, 1954], No. 21647/54. Class 39(1). A dispersed getter container is closed at normal temperatures but opens when heated by virtue of the different thermal expansions of different parts. As shown, a cup 1 of nickel has nested within it a cup 2 of molybdenum which has a lower coefficient of expansion. The cups are held together by a nickel eyelet 3 and spacer washer 4 and contains pellets 5, 6 of nickel-clad barium. When heated to vaporize the getter an annular gap opens between the cups, but this closes again on cooling and retains getter ash within the container where it will not upset the valve during working. The opening 1 may alternatively be due to differential heating of materials of the same coefficient of expansion.
