697,139. Stuffing-box substitutes. TITEFLEX, Inc. July 6, 1951 [Aug. 17, 1950], No. 16132/51. Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXVIII] A bellows diaphragm for a pipe expansion joint comprises an apertured metallic disc which has relatively thick inner and outer marginal portions and a relatively thin intermediate portion which is more flexible than the marginal portions. The diaphragm may be a single hot forged piece of sheet metal, or, as shown, may comprise an annular disc 7 of uniform thickness, reinforcing discs 8, 9 which extend from the inner and outer margins respectively to the midpoint of the annulus, and narrower discs 10, 11 also extending from the margins.
