697,138. Stuffing-box substitutes. TITEFLEX, Inc. July 6, 1951 [April 17, 1950], No. 16131/51. Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXVIII] A bellows construction for pipe expansion joints comprises a number of connected diaphragms which are progressively less flexible from the midpoint of the structure towards its ends. In one form flanges 3, 4 welded to the overlapping pipe ends 1, 2 are connected by single diaphragms 16 and by pairs of like diaphragms 14, 12 to a central pair 10, the diaphragms 10, 12, 14 and 16 being of progressively increasing thickness. The diaphragms 14, 16 are of laminated construction. In another form the diaphragms are of the same thickness but increase in area towards the centre. Specification' 697,139 is referred to.
