[Class 99 (ii)] A pipe supported at three or more points is provided with one or more expansion joints having angular and linear flexibility and located at such a point or points that small changes in the level of the supports do not produce changes in the bending stresses. For example, with two spans one joint is provided in one of the spans, preferably at the point of contraflexure. With an odd number of spans a joint is provided in the end spans and two joints in every other odd span, or alternatively the pipe is provided with two joints in every even span. With an even number of spans greater than two, two joints are provided in every even span except the last, which contains one, or, alternatively, the pipe is provided with one joint in each span except the first.
