Abstract
767,133. Window blinds. COOPE, J. T. L. and COOPE, J. W. May 2, 1955, No. 12927/54. Class 20(3) A supporting arm for a sun blind or awning having a lazy-tong linkage accommodated in a pocket or container when the blind is closed and in which the anchorage pivot of one of the two innermost links is located at a fixed point and the other anchorage pivot co-operates with a guide track during at least part of the closing and opening movement of the arm, has the .guide track adjustable to vary the position of the co-operating pivot when the arm is in the extended position so that the clearance height of the blind lath edge element may be varied. The supporting lazy-tong linkage comprises single links 1 pivoted to double bar links 2, the outermost short link 5 being pivoted to the centre of a link 6 having a fixed toe piece 9 and a pivoted carrier link 7 to which the blind lath element 8 is connected by a spring-loaded piston mounting 23-28. The innermost link 4 is fixedly but removably mounted by a pivot 10 engaging in a slot in a support 11 and held by split pin 12. The innermost link 3 is mounted by a pivot 14 engaging slots 16 between arms 17, 18 of a pair of links 15, the arms 17 being shorter so that the guide slots 16 are open :at the top rearwardly. The links 15 are each.mounted by a fixed pivot 19 at the top of arm 18 and by a lower part 15a engaging a slot 20a in a bar 20 horizontally adjustable by screws 20b engaging slots 20c, so that the position of pivot 14 can be altered to adjust the angle of the extended blind. The extent of opening of the links is adjustable by limiting movement of the pivot 14 by a pin 21 engaging in pairs of holes 22 in the arms 17, 18. The links and pivots are mounted in containers 13. In closing the blind, the links are first pushed together, when the pivot 14 clears the arms 17 and the whole is then pivoted about the pin 10, the link 7 engaging the fixed toe piece 9 as in Fig. 3. The blind is housed in a box 29 having a guide means 30 and in the closed position, the lath element 8 enters the box 29 as shown, or may engage against a fascia board. The links 7 may be provided with covers to close the entrance to the containers 13
