Abstract
766,980. Transformers and inductors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 25, 1955 [March 29, 1954], No. 8827/55. Class 38 (2). A three-legged laminated core is composed of magnetic strips with butt joints between the ends of the leg and yoke portions staggered in adjacent layers of laminations, each of the leg and yoke portions comprising a part of parallelly arranged strips with abutting longitudinal edges. Lamination layer 11 comprises leg and yoke portions wherein the joints between all three by members and the yoke members form generally Z-shaped joints, as at 12, 13, 14. Lamination layer 15 is similar to lamination layer 11 but is turned through 180 degrees. Lamination layer 16 is similar to lamination layer 11 at the joints between the outer leg portions and the yoke portions only; the joints between the inner leg and the yoke portions forming generally L-shaped joints. Lamination layer 17 is similar to lamination layer 16 but is turned through 180 degrees. When a core is assembled of a plurality of such layers the joints in the successive layers are thereby staggered. In another embodiment all four layers are similar to each other, each layer having the upper half as in layer 11 and the lower half as in layer 16. When assembling the core the layers are rotated with respect to each other, first 180 degrees about a horizontal axis, then 180 degrees about a vertical axis and again through 180 degrees about a horizontal axis thus giving a four layer pattern. In all the lamination layers only six different strip lengths are required. If desired the width of the yoke strips may be made different from that of the leg strips.
