Abstract

765,975. Feeding webs. DAILY MIRROR NEWSPAPERS, Ltd. Sept. 6, 1955 [Sept. 13, 1954], No. 26464/54. Class 100(1) A tab for securing the free end of a web roll to the roll body comprises two paper parts gummed together over a restricted area, such that the opposed faces may be stripped apart from one another, at least one of the parts being coated overall with adhesive on its outer face. As shown, a paper strip is gummed at areas 2 and 3 to a trapezoidal shaped part 4, preferably of less strong paper than the strip 1. In use, the tab is applied to a roll 7 of printing paper with the part 4 gummed to the free end 8 of the printing paper whilst forming an extension 9 to the end 8 and with the part 1 gummed to the roll 7. In place of the gummed area 2, the strip 1 may have a gummed turned-back ear 6 for attachment to the part 4. Further, the face of the part 4 opposite to that gummed to the strip 1 may be coated with a permanently tacky adhesive protected by a layer of foil split to permit its removal in two stages; one when the tab is to be applied to the end 8 and secondly to expose the adhesive on the extension 9 for splicing to the trailing end of an expiring web. The two parts forming the tab may be separate but only joined together on application to a roll. Specification 404,216 is referred to.
