Abstract

765,883. Steering vehicles. JAGUAR CARS, Ltd., and HEYNES, W. M. June 23, 1955 [July 3, 1954], No. 19563/54. Class 79(5). In a motor vehicle having a rack and pinion steering mechanism 10, 14 the rack support 13 is mounted on the chassis frame 24 through a flat plate 19 secured to the upper surface only of a rubber block 20, the block being fast with another flat plate 21 connected to the chassis frame. As shown the rack 14 is supported by bearings 15 in the support 13, and the pinion 10 is connected by a universal joint 12 to the steering column 11. The support 13 carries fore and aft pairs of bosses 18 receiving bolts 27 passing through the plate 19. The plate 21 is connected by bolts 22 to a supporting bracket 23 on the vehicle frame 24, the plates 19, 21 having their edges shaped to facilitate access to the bolts 27, 22.
