765,570. Bourdon gauges. PRESSURE GAUGES, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1954, No. 5597/54. Class 106 (2). In a Bourdon tube device movement of the free end of the tube is limited by mechanical means substantially to that which it would normally take by virtue of changes in pressure. It is stated that this lessens the possibility of the device being damaged when knocked, for example in transit. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, the free end of the tube is constrained to an arcuate path by a lever 5, having a fixed pivot 6, the drive to the indicating mechanism being via a link 17 and a lever 14. In a second embodiment, Fig. 8, the end of the tube is constrained to a straight line path, which, it is stated, approximates to the normal path of the end of the tube. In two further embodiments (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), the end of the tube is constrained as in Fig. 1, but optical indicating means are employed; in the first a mirror is mounted on the lever 5 and in the second a graduated scale which can be viewed through a lens. All the embodiments shown could incorporate a locking device shown in the locking position in Fig. 4, which comprises a rotatable member 26 carrying two pins 24, 25.
