Abstract
765,323. Gas manufacture. KOPPERS CO., Inc. Feb. 21, 1955 [March 1, 1954], No. 5110/55. Class 55 (2). A valve apparatus for a coke-oven ascension pipe 6 consists of a conical part 22 which, when in its upper position, seats against the end of the gooseneck pipe 8, a domed part 40 covering a central passage 24 in the part 22 so that, when the valve is closed, the spray liquor collects on top of the part 24 and the part 40 dips therein to prevent passage of gas from the collecting- main 12 to the oven 4. The parts 22, 40 are mounted on an operating-rod 36 between nuts 38; 48. When the rod 36 is depressed to open the valve, the lip 26 on the underside of the part 22 rests upon stops 28 on legs 30 projecting from a ring 18 which, with packing 20, seals the pipe 8 into the main 12. The upper part of the gooseneck 8 is provided with the sprayer 50 and an inspection door 54. In a modification, the valve is open when in its upper position, and closed when in its lower position.
