Abstract

764,775. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Feb. 7, 1955 [Feb. 8, 1954], No. 3608/55. Class 8(2) A suction cleaner of the handle propelled type and having an indicator responsive to the pressure within the filter to indicate clogging has means for rendering the indicator ineffective except when the body is tilted back so as to lift the nozzle from a horizontal supporting surface. A bellows 60 communicating with a discharge passage 23 actuates a lever 62 having an indicator 66 which is brought into register with an opening 67. The opening 67 is closed by a mask 70 on a weighted lever 68 which remains in a vertical position when the body is tilted causing the mask 70 to leave the opening 67. In a modification the indicator is held in a position in which it is not visible, by a ball in a tube set at an angle and which ball rolls away from the indicator when the body is tilted.
