Abstract
764,429. Washing gases. CHEMICAL CONSTRUCTION CORPORATION. Jan. 20, 1955 [Feb. 5, 1954], No. 1736/55. Class 55 (2). A gas washer embodying a venturi passage comprises a throat section 5 with vertical side walls 3, 4, an expansion section with diverging walls 6, 7 and a contraction section with converging walls 8, 9 the inner ends 10, 11 of which are spaced from the throat to accommodate pivotally mounted blades 20, 21. Pivot shafts 22, 23 project through stuffing boxes to the top and bottom walls of the passage and are connected to a lever or to gearing for rotation to adjust the angular position of the blades from a maximum opening in which the blades are parallel to the throat sides. Scrubbing liquid jets are admitted through openings 17, 18 to project horizontally across the throat. Flexible seals 27, 28 pressing against strips 30 welded to the blade shafts to make a sliding contact prevent the passage of gas round the upstream ends of the blades. Adjustment of the blades may be effected automatically in response to variations in the rate of flow of gas entering the passage. Specification 655,038 is referred to.
