In a peat-digging machine a rigid structure comprising the boom 17 of an endless chain excavating means and the casing 19 of an extruder into which the disintegrated peat is projected by the excavating means is pivotally mounted on a driven shaft 7 from which a drive is taken to the moving components of the excavating means and to the extruder, the shaft 7 being mounted in the mobile chassis of the machine. The structure 17, 19 is rotated about the shaft 7 by an hydraulically-actuated jack 24. The piston of the jack 24 abuts an arm 23 of a lever pivotally mounted on the chassis, and the other arm of the lever is connected by a link 20 to the boom 17.
