Abstract

The invention comprises methyl 3,11-diketo-bisnorallocholanate, and the preparation thereof by hydrolysing methyl 3-acetoxy-11-keto-bisnorallocholanate to form the corresponding 3-hydroxy compound which is then oxidized with chromic acid. The hydrolysis is preferably carried out with an alkali metal hydroxide, e.g. potassium hydroxide. One detailed example is given in which chromium trioxide and sulphuric acid are used for the oxidation. Specifications 764,325 and 764,327 are referred to.
