Abstract
763,704. Making clay pellets. L. W. A., Ltd. Jan. 12, 1955, No. 1014/55. Class 87(2). A rotating cylinder machine for making clay pellets sucks air-entrained clay from a reservoir 15 into peripheral cylinders 6 by inward movement of pistons 7 in the cylinders while they are open to the reservoir and ejects the moulded pellets on to a conveyer 18. The machine comprises a rotating hollow drum 1 having a large number of the cylinders 6 mounted in its surface, Fig. 3. The pistons 7 are spring-biased so that a rounded steel stud 10 is kept permanently in contact with the stationary cam surface 13. In operation, the pistons 7 flush with the surface of the drum are cleared by a felt pad 17 at B and lubricated from a reservoir 16 between B and C. Between C and D air-entrained clay from hopper 15 is sucked into the cylinders 5 as the pistons, 7 retract. Between E and F the pistons move outwards again to eject the clay pellets 20 on to a conveyer belt 18 whence they are carried through a drying kiln before firing.
