763,580. Release mechanism for aircraft canopies. MARTIN, J. and MARTIN-BAKER AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd. April 15, 1955 [April 22, 1954], No. 11714/54. Class 4. Mechanism for freeing the locks retaining an aircraft canopy in position and then forcibly ejecting it comprises a gas generating unit 44, consisting of a breech containing an explosive cartridge and a spring-loaded firing pin, the explosive gases being led from the breech through pipes 45, 46 to the interiors of cylinders 47. The cylinders contain pistons which operate bell-cranks 14 pivoted to yoke members 12 in turn connected to rods 48 to free all of the locks 49 simultaneously. Further movement of the pistons operates plungers which forcibly eject the canopy from its seating. Specification 763,581 is referred to.
