Abstract

763,280. Work benches. SHANDON & CO.; Ltd., E. R. April 25, 1955 [May 10, 1954], No. 13544/54. Class 61. A mobile extension platform 1 has one side edge slidably secured to the side edge of a bench or like work table 2, the opposite side 1b being supported by adjustable legs 4. Hollow rail members 9, 10 are secured to the adjoining edges of the plantform and work table respectively, each rail having a longitudinal slit in the outwardly directed rail face, wherein dogs 11 having shanks 12 carried by the platform and extending through the slit platform rail face are arranged to enter the hollow bench rail 10 through the slit face and engage in the rail 10 by angular displacement after entry. Each dog shank 12 is surrounded immediately behind the dog 11 by a roller which is arranged to ride on the lips of the :rail slits. The inner end of each dog shank 12 extends through an aperture in the face of the platform rail 9 and enters a collar 14 contained in a recess 13 in the platform, the collar and shank being held against relative axial displacement by a radial handle 15 which projects through a slot in the platform and is angularly displaceable to rotate the dog between an entry position and a retained engaging position. The platform is locked against sliding movement by a bolt carried on the undersurface of the platform and arranged to engage under the bench. The platform has a hinged extension flap 7.
