Abstract

938,368. Securing tools to shafts. W. CANNING & CO. Ltd. Aug. 30, 1962 [Sept. 12, 1961], No. 32629/61. Class 80 (2). Means for securing a tool-holder to a substantially vertical shaft comprises a socketted part 6 on the holder engaging the end of the shaft 1 and prevented from relative rotation by at least one radial pin 8 engaging a longitudinal slot 2 in the shaft, axial movement of the holder being prevented by at least one ball 10 in a hole 9 in the socketted part engaging a groove 3 in the shaft, the ball being releasable by limited axial movement of a surrounding sleeve 11. Axial movement of the sleeve 11 is limited by a flange 4 on the tool-holder and a second flange 12 bolted to the end of the socketted part 6, a chamfer 14 on the sleeve end allowing movement of the ball without loss.
