763,070. Handle-bars. SACKVILLE, Ltd., and LAWSON, E. A. Nov. 29, 1954 [Sept. 24, 1953], No. 26285/53. Class 136(3). In a bicycle handle-bar steering stem 1 of the kind secured to the steering tube by means of a headed screw threaded bolt 8 axially engaging the stem and tightened in a tapped plug 9 in the split lower part of the stem for expanding the latter into tight engagement with the bore of the steering tube, the handlebar 4 being received in and connected to a contractible clip 3 on the upper part of the stem, the clip has an upper and lower integral jaw 5, 6, the lower jaw 6 being fastened to the head of the steering stem 1 and the upper jaw 6 possessing inherent resiliency, both jaws having a hole 7 coaxial with the stem for reception of the headed bolt 8 so that upon tightening the latter against the top of the upper jaw 5, the clip is contracted and the stem expanded simultaneously. The clip 3 and the jaws 5, 6 are made as a sheet metal pressing and the lower jaw 6 is welded at 10 to the top of the stem 1.
