762,903. Intake silencers; purifying charge ; filters for carburetters. KNECHT, A. July 2, 1954 [July 2, 1953], No. 19423/54. Classes 7 (2) and 7 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] An air filter, e.g., for I.C. engines and in particular motor-vehicle engines, has a controllable air inlet 1 arranged in a noise damping pipe 2 connected by a tubular part 7 to the cover 8 of a filter housing 9, and an annular filter 15 of paper corrugated in the axial direction of the filter. Preferably, the filter is provided with a handle 19 for removal thereof from the housing 9, and the pipe 2 extends parallel to the axis of the filter. As shown, the quantity of air passing through the inlet 1 is controlled by a pipe 4, having an opening 3, disposed within the pipe 2 and rotatable by a handle 6. The filter is located between rings 13, 14, the inner ring 14 being connected to the handle 19 and closed by a cap 20 forming a trap for oil which may pass through the pipe 17 by which the filter housing is connected to a carburetter ; also, the ring 14 may be provided with circumferential corrugations acting as oil traps, and enclose a spongy body lying against the cap 20.
