762,664. Apparatus for making and storing carbonated beverages. THOMPSON, N. G. July 7, 1954 [July 7, 1953], No. 18820/53. Class 14(1) Apparatus for making and storing a carbonated beverage comprises a primary container 13 in which gasification is effected and a storage container 2 which receives the liquid treated in the container 13, the containers being provided with cooling and insulating means and being mounted one above the other in a frame 1 so as to constitute a unit that can readily be handled As shown, as a unit for use on board ship, concentrated beer is forced under pressure through an inlet 26 into the container 13, and is then diluted by water to the required consumption concentration. An agitator 22 is then set in motion and carbon dioxide fed to the beer by a pipe 18 from bottles 9. The beer is cooled by brine circulated through a cooling jacket 15 and both containers are lagged at 3. The beer is then discharged via a filter 8 to the container 2 and is kept cool by brine flowing through a U-tube 17 and the beer can be drawn off as required. Lower gas bottles 9a are connected to the container 2 to maintain pressure. The struts of the frame have apertured flanges 34 for bolting it to a deck, and loops 3b to enable the unit to be slung on tackle.
