762,577. Turning gear. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. April 13, 1953. [June 30, 1952], No. 10073/53. Class 7 (5). [Also in Group XXIV] To facilitate mesh of a dog clutch in the change-speed gear of a vehicle having mechanical or hydraulic transmission, whilst both the vehicle and its driving engine or turbine are stationary, the engine or turbine shaft can be inched slowly through a predetermined angle in one direction only, by supplying pressure air or oil through a calibrated restrictor 13 to a single-stroke piston 15, which rocks a parallelogram linkage carrying a pawl 7, spring-loaded into engagement with a ratchet wheel 1 mounted directly on the said shaft. On exhausting at 14, the piston is returned to idle position, shown, by a spring 8, and a stop 9 lifts the pawl 7 off the ratchet.
