Abstract
735,806. Hydraulic transmission of power. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. June 11, 1953 [Sept. 8, 1952; Oct. 31, 1952]. No. 16160/53. Class 69 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] A vehicle drive comprises, between a steam or gas turbine and the transmission system actuated thereby, a torque converter which is of the type in which the reaction member is provided with a free wheel so that the converter acts as a coupling when the input and output torques are equal. A clutch may be provided which renders the converter inoperative when it acts as a coupling so as to prevent losses due to slipping. The change-over may be effected by a governor 11 driven by an output shaft 7, the operation of a clutch 9 depending on the position of a fork 12. The end 14 of a spring forming a support for the governor is connected to the accelerator pedal 16 and thus varies, as a function of the load, the speed at which the clutch is operated.
