For patterning on a superposed cylinder machine the transfer cam arrangement in connection with the lower cylinder comprises two cams 1, 2 one slidable on top of the other so that the rising cam face of the lower cam is followed by the rising cam face of the upper cam. Both cams are radially movable and mounted in a common guideway 5 of a bush 6 on the cam box of the lower cylinder. By providing long and short butts on the needle sliders, as well as pattern jacks operative on the sliders, and by operating the cams from a pattern drum, various needle transfer arrangements may be effected.
