Abstract

A slag forming body to be positioned between the stud and workpiece in stud welding is formed from a mixture of rutile 60 per cent, bentonite 27 per cent and manganese-silicon 13 per cent which is shaped with water and sintered. The titanium dioxide is reduced to provide wholly or in part the electrical conductivity of the body and the reduced titanium dioxide forms from 30-80 per cent of the body. Silicate and powdered metal may be included in the body.
