Abstract

The Co content of Cr ore is reduced by melting the ore and treating it with a reducing agent whilst in intimate contact with molten Fe and/or Cr; the treated ore is then used in the production of alloys for use in nuclear engineering. The reducing agent may be C and its compounds, Si, Al, Ca or Ti and it may be alloyed with the Fe and/or Cr. It may be added as powder.
