Abstract

762,109. Pneumatic conveyers. PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A. Jan. 8, 1954 [Oct. 22, 1953], No. 29228/53. Class 78 (1). The flow of finely-divided solids in a freely-flowing state, or in a state of suspension in a fluid, through an outlet 6 from a tank 1 to the combustion chamber of a gas turbine, is controlled by introducing into the inlet portion 7 of the pipe 6 a variable amount of fluid under pressure. The part 7 is porous, or formed with holes 12, Fig. 2, and is surrounded by a cylindrical casing 9 of larger diameter. High pressure air is admitted to the space 8 between the parts 7, 9 through a pipe 10, the amount admitted being controlled by a valve 11 which can be actuated manually or by the governor of the gas turbine. The pipe 6 discharges into a larger pipe 5 through which air passes from a compressor to the combustion chamber. The tank 1 has a porous bottom 2 through which air supplied by the pipe 4 passes upwards to fluidize the material.
