Abstract

761,758. Machine belting; laminted materials. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Feb. 9, 1954 [Feb. 24, 1953], No. 5166/53. Class 140. Machine belting comprises a woven duck fabric of broken twill or herringbone twill weave embedded in a flexible composition containing a vinylchloride polymer or copolymer. The flexible composition may contain polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl-chloride with vinyl acetate and/or vinylidene chloride, and a plasticizer, e.g. a mixture of tritolyl phosphate with dioctyl phthalate, or of dioctyl sebacate with tritolyl phosphate. Natural or synthetic rubber, e.g. copolymers of butadiene with acrylonitrile or methyl isopropenyl ketone, may be added to the flexible composition in proportion 60 : 40 to 20 : 80 to the vinyl chloride polymer or copolymer, preferably 1 to 2¢ parts by weight. A textile fabric as disclosed in Specification 537,288 is coated on both sides by usual calender or press methods with a paste of polyvinyl chloride in a mixture of tricresyl phosphate and dioctyl phthalate. The coating is gelled by heat, and three or four coats are applied on each side, each coat being separately gelled. The coated fabric is cut to width, plied up to form a belt, and pressed under stretch at a temperature to fuse the composition. When the resultant belt is to be used as a conveyer belt, it is covered by applying additional spread coats, or a calendered or extruded sheet to the outer plies of duck. Specification 715,059 also is referred to.
