Abstract
715,059. Belting. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Oct. 7, 1952 [Nov. 27, 1951], No. 27748/51. Addition to 592,294. Class 80 (1) [Also in Groups VIII and IX] Belting for conveyers and power transmission comprises a flexible composition containing a polyvinvl compound in combination with one or more plies of double-faced textile fabric woven in the manner described in the parent specification. The 'composition may contain polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate and/or vinylidene chloride with a suitable plasticizer. The composition may also contain a proportion of rubber. A ply of fabric may be given several successive coats of a paste of polyvinyl chloride mixed with tricresyl phosphate and dioctyl phthalate, each coat being fused by passing through a hot air chamber. The belt is then pressed under tension at a temperature high enough to soften the compound without fusing. A multi-ply belt may be formed by fusing together, and subsequently pressing, superimposed plies each having one or more fused coats and a thin layer of unfused composition. Rubber-polyvinyl compounds may be applied by calender and press methods.
