Abstract
761,661. Electromagnetic switches. MECCANO, Ltd. July 5, 1954 [July 31, 1953], No. 21226/53. Class 38(5) The resistance wire 4 of an inductance current-limiter is wound on the lower limb of a laminated U-shaped core or, as shown, over the operating winding on the other limb. The ends of the limbs are inclined at 1a, 1b to co-operate with an armature 12 carried on one, 9, of a pair of spring blades 9, 10, carrying contacts 11a, 11b which normally short-circuit the resistance 4 but separate after a predetermined travel of the armature, to insert the resistance, which acts as a reinforcing winding to assist retention of the armature. An indicator bell or lamp may also shunt the contacts. The natural period of the moving system is such as to preclude operation by transients. A phosphor-bronze strip 14 enables the operating current to be preset. A copper slug may be fitted on the lower limb to delay opening.
