Abstract

744,261. Automatic circuit-breakers. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd. May 28, 1954 [June 3, 1953], No. 15334/53. Class 38(5) A load 18 in a flameproof casing 19 is controlled by contacts 1, 2 of a switch the operating coil 3 of which is in a local circuit (which is intrinsically safe) including a resistor 6, normally-closed overload contacts 10 and interlock-contacts 11, the contacts 10 being opened on overload by a series coil 15. A pilot lamp 30 and series resistor 31 are also provided. The winding 3, contacts 1, 2, resistors 6, 31, and overload coil are enclosed in a flameproof or other protective casing 7, but to enable adjustment of the overload setting, the magnetic circuit 21, 22 of the overload coil projects through the casing and co-operates with a contact-controlling armature 24, adjustable by a cam 25. Connections are led into the casing 7 by means of rods embedded in moulded plastic insulation 32, 33, a lead 35 being connected to a control box 34 containing the pilot lamp, a stop button 9 and a start button 8. The latter is made antipumping by having a conducting ring 37 which, when the button is pressed, makes momentary contact with a leaf spring 38, a hold-on contact 12 maintaining the circuit if sound. For A.C. circuits, the coil 3 may be supplied from a rectifier 39, Fig. 1.
