Class 117 In a purifier for flour mill stocks, of the type wherein an upward air current assists the purification of stock fed to the ends of oscillating sieves, a series of transverse channels of narrow cross-section are spaced along and just above the sieve covers, each channel being closed at the top and at one end, the bottom being open to the sieve cover and the other end being open for communication with an exhausting duct for drawing air upwards through the sieve cover. In a duplex purifier, Fig. 1, a pair of oscillating sieves, fed at one end, have their transverse channels b communicating with a common central exhausting duct f for removal of the lighter separated particles. The channels have a longtitudinal section as shown in Fig. 2, wherein a denotes the sieve covers, and the channels communicate with duct f through openings adjustable by slides g. The channels comprise side walls extending upwards to a transparent top c for the apparatus. and arc fitted with diamondshaped elements h having varying gaps j, for effecting a uniform air flow across the width of the sieve. In a modification the separation of the lower part of the channel side walls progressively decreases towards the central duct for the same purpose.
