Abstract

899,449. Screening apparatus. STANDARD FILTERBAU G.m.b.H. Nov. 2, 1960 [Nov. 27, 1959], No. 37711/60. Class 117. Apparatus for classifying granular material comprises an inclined tunnel with at least one transverse slot in its top wall and at least one outlet in its lower wall and divided into ducts by partitions each formed with a plurality of transverse slots, means for passing a current of gas upward through the tunnel, a device for vibrating the tunnel and means for delivering the granular material on to the upper end of the top wall of the tunnel. Slots 4 pass through the upper wall of the screening tunnel and, except for a selected one, are normally closed by removable covers 5. The transverse slots 7 are uniformly spaced and are oblique to the partitions 6 to deflect the material in the direction of the gas flow. The gas, usually air, is drawn through the tunnel by a suction connection 9, as drawn by the arrows a, b and is deflected at the outlet by bent over ends of the partitions. The lower wall 10 of the screening tunnel has spaced outlets 11<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>11</SP> and 11<SP>111</SP>. In operation, the finest grains of material are carried along and above the path c to the suction connection 9, whence they pass to a device which separates them from the air. The coarser grains which move between the paths c and d leave through the outlet 11<SP>1</SP> and the even coarser grains follow paths between d and e and pass through the outlet 11<SP>11</SP>, and so on; the very coarsest grains dropping out at f The different grades vary according to which slot 4 is selected.
