A fluid-pressure gauge comprises a tube a containing the indicating liquid, a cylinder having two parts d, k of different diameters and a corresponding stepped piston i, j, the larger part d of the cylinder being connected to the tube a and having a controlled inlet e for fluid under pressure and a vent g controlled by the piston part i, the other end k of the cylinder being connected at m to the fluid whose pressure is to be measured. In use fluid is admitted to the cylinder d by a valve f until equilibrium is reached with the pressures on the two piston faces equal. The liquid in tube a then indicates the required pressure. To reduce friction the piston i, j may be rotated as a turbine. The apparatus may be used for calibrating other pressure gauges.
