Abstract

759,453. Electromagnetically-actuated pumps. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Nov. 16, 1954 [Dec. 14, 1953], No. 33188/54. Class 102(1). A piston 2 of magnetic material reciprocates in a cylinder 1 of non-magnetic material surrounded by a coil 5 suitably energized by contacts 19. Liquid is drawn through valve 21 and passes through valve 26, carried by the piston, and passage 3 when the piston is moving downwardly under the influence of the coil 5 and delivered into the chamber 11 when the piston is moved upwardly by the spring 4. The valve 26 is shaped as shown in Fig. 2 and is made of magnetic material and co-operates with a seating of non-magnetic material so that when the piston is magnetized, the valve 26 is attracted and lifted from its seating ; the valve is closed by the spring 27. The delivery chamber 11 is bounded by a diaphragm 13. The valve 21 may be omitted.
