Abstract

1,049,314. Valves. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Jan. 1, 1965, No. 59/65. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions F1, H1 and H2] A valve is operated by an electromagnetically operated hydraulic control system which comprises a reciprocating pump supplying a power cylinder with means for stopping the pumping action after the piston has moved a fixed distance. The electromagnetic actuator comprises a magnet system having two series-connected coils 15, 16 with annular polepieces 22, 23, 24, at the extreme ends and between the coils respectively, with polarizing permanent magnets 26, 27, 28, 29 arranged to have like poles adjacent the central polepiece so that the armature oscillates about the position shown when the coils are energized by A.C. Extension 42 of the armature acts as the piston of a reciprocating pump having inlet port 39 and a spring-loaded outlet valve 60. Fluid is pumped into power cylinder 11 so that piston 10 moves down against spring 10C to operate valve 12. After a set movement arm 10B will open switch 13, putting rectifier 14 into circuit and the armature 43 will be held in the position shown thus closing port 39. If piston 10 moves up, due to leakage, rectifier 14 is again short-circuited and pumping action re-starts. When switch 20 is opened armature 43 is forced against plate 46 by spring 44 to interconnect ports 38, 39 so that as piston 10 rises fluid is exhausted through bypass 70. Modifications of the control circuit where the action can be manually controlled are also described.
