Abstract

A solenoid actuated bucket pump has a bypass valve 50 controlling a by-pass port 48 from the outlet chamber 25, the valve being loaded by a spring 52 and being slidably mounted in a core 46 which is drawn into and held in a lower position when the solenoid 12 is energized. The core 46 having a dephasing ring 54. To operate the pump the solenoid is supplied with A.C. or pulse current to stop pumping but hold the valve 50 closed the solenoid is supplied with D.C. or current having similar effect. When current is cut off, the core 46 is free to rise and the valve 50 uncovers the port 48 so that the outlet A is connected to the return port E. The core 22 is connected to the bucket 30 and is centred by springs 27, 28. A suitable supply circuit is shown in Fig. 2 in which the coil L is either fed with half wave rectified current through a diode D, directly or in series with a resistance R, the resistance R and coil L being shunted by a diode D2.
