Abstract
1,048,496. Reciprocating pumps; injectors. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. May 26, 1965 [June 29, 1964], No. 22481/65. Headings F1A and FIE. In a movable diaphragm pump, fluid flow from chamber 27 to chamber 19 and vice versa through venturi throat 16 causes fluid to be drawn into the system through passage 47 and recess 17 and the excess fluid to be discharged from passage 48. When coil 37 is energized armature 38 attracts member 33 and diaphragm 21 upwardly to reduce the volume of chamber 27. Fluid flows from chamber 27 through tube 28 and lower venturi section 14 through throat 16 into chamber 19. When coil 37 is de-energized spring 46 causes reverse flow through throat 16. In another embodiment a cup-shaped member 74, Fig. 3 (not shown) which surrounds the solenoid replaces the tubular member 36 in Fig. 1. The wall of the cup-shaped member 74 forms a throat 69 with the frusto-conical sections 65, 66. During pumping the fluid flows from chamber 76 to chamber 75 and vice-versa. The excess fluid in the system is delivered through passage 93. In a modification the cup member 125 Fig. 4 (not shown), is acted on by a leaf-type return spring 141.
