Abstract

1,092,872. Reciprocating motors; movable magnet switches. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Nov. 27, 1964 [Nov. 28, 1963], No. 48214/64. Headings H2A and H2B. [Also in Division F1] An electromagnetically operated fuel delivery pump for e.g. an I.C. engine, comprises an electromagnet reciprocable armature constituting a pump piston 1 which is acted on by a spring 20 to counteract the electromagnet, and a reed switch 27 having a pair of magnetizable contact blades 28, 29 so responsive to a permanent magnet 25 on the piston as to switch on the electromagnet energizing current e.g. D.C. as the piston approaches its end position in which the spring has a minimum stress and maintain the current until the piston approaches its other, attracted, end position, and to switch off the current as the latter position is approached and hold it so until the piston reapproaches its first-mentioned position. The switching off is effected by magnet short-circuiting members 50, 51 and the normally-open blades are fused into an inert gas-filled glass envelope fitted into a pressboard carrier plate 45 which also carries a power transistor 31, resistors 30, 32, and a voltage peak suppressing diode 33 in the circuit, Fig. 4, of the electromagnet winding 5. An Al die-cast housing 40 has a suction socket 41 and a delivery conduit bore 47, and contains inlet and outlet valves e.g. 16, and plastics buffers e.g. 46 for the piston. In another embodiment, Figs. 1 . . . 3, the magnet and switch are parallel with the pump axis, being disposed in a bore (21) and groove (26) respectively of a plastics housing (12).
