Abstract

759,098. Rotary pipe couplings. TAYLOR & SONS (MANCHESTER), Ltd., F. April 12, 1955 [June 29,1954], No. 18959/54. Class 99(1). In a rotary fluid-supply coupling for location, for example, at the slewing axis of the jib of a crane, a cylindrical plug 17 rotatably mounted in a unitary housing 10 is provided with grooves 21 in each of which is located a sealing ring 22, and annular grooves 24 forming a fluid passage between the housing and the plug. Each groove 24 communicates with a pipe connection 15 in the housing and a passage 25 in and leading to a pipe connection 27 at one end of the plug. As shown, at each end of the housing 10 is an enlarged bore 13 for a gland packing 14, and screw-threaded portions 11 of reduced external diameter receiving gland nuts 12. A head 18 at one end of the plug locates the latter axially by engaging the adjacent gland nut, and the gland nut is engaged by a retaining clip 19 secured by screws 20 to the housing. The connections 15 on the housing may be in line, and lead to connections 17 at either end of the plug.
